Don’t underestimate that working a full season away from home, long term partners and family can be hard and only you truly know if you can be away from them! If you really do want to marry that special person then going aboard for 5 months or longer on your own will probably not make the heart grow stronger. Ski and beach resort reputations for bed hopping are legendry and based on the truth!
Companies that come to us to find staff can take a very strong line on people who go out for Xmas and New Year then want to come home because you can’t be away from him/her! They probably won’t let you come home for Granny’s 90th Birthday or your best friends wedding, even if it is during a quiet week (ask them before you leave England)!
No one is going to give you a job and pay you for it and then not expect you to work long hours and often unsociable ones at that. Cooking, cleaning and hospitality service jobs are often stressful and trying. Just being "nice" for hours on end can exhaust even the most energetic amongst us. Guests come in all shapes and sizes and they can often leave you shell shocked at their thoughtlessness. Don’t forget the weather can sometimes be cold and unforgiving if you work in the mountains and in summer villa pools are often reserved for guests only! You will be tired and sometimes ill or hungover but still expected to just get on with the job in hand. Operators will always expect employees to work right to the very end of their contract even if you are ready to hit the beach or head home. |
